Personally Guided Birding Day
Item Number: 122
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
The San Francisco bay area is rich with open space, wildlife and beautiful awesomeness in general. As a visitor, it's hard to know where to start. Here's a suggestion:
A day of birding in the greater Bay Area for you and up to 3 friends, before or after NN13. (Can also be done at another time if we can find a mutually agreeable date.) The itinerary will be tailored to your goals - specific habitats, locations or species, or photo ops. Any experience level okay - serious birder to beginning birder to "which end of these binoculars do I look through again?" You will get to see parts of the Bay Area that most people never know about.
Special Instructions
For beginning birders and non-birders - we'll go to some beautiful spots and take in a wide variety of species. We can spend time on ID skills that will help you get more out of birding.
For serious birders: Within an hour's drive of the NN13 site, there are several locations that support some highly sought-after birds: Lawrence's Goldfinch, Lewis' Woodpecker, American Dipper, Black Skimmer and Golden Eagle; a bit further afield (but still quite doable for a day trip) is the possibility of California Condor, or possibly Marbled Murrelet (if you're okay with a distant scope view of a tiny bird floating offshore).
