For Eastern European Jews, Cholent was the answer to not being able to cook on the Sabbath. Why? Because you put it in the oven, babysit it like a precious grandchild overnight and then, henani, there it is! My Hungarian grandmother's version of cholent has beans, barley, wheatberries, kishka, brisket, roasted eggs, onions, potatoes, marrow bones -- the whole megilla. Your guests might have trouble getting out of bed in the morning from being in tzuris, but they'll be so happy and spiritually uplifted they won't care!
