In 1906 when a historic arboretum of centuries-old trees was slated to be cut for lumber, industrialist and philanthropist Pierre S. du Pont purchased the property to save the trees. He then began creating a world-class garden like no other. Longwood's ever-changing gardens, dazzling fountains and opulent conservatory offer a new experience with each memorable visit.
