What do you know about Austria? Outside of the Sound of Music and the Land of Mozart it is renowned for its cuisine, a cuisine savored for over six centuries by the discriminating palates of the Empresses’ and Emperors’ of the House of Habsburg.
Now meet Chef Caroline Menacher. She and her two sisters were raised by their single mother in the Austrian Alps. She was six when the second world war broke out forcing her to care for her siblings while her mother toiled all day in the fields for meager wages, most days, a slice of stale bread their only source of nourishment.
This hunger and hardship fueled her life’s ambition. Her adventure began at sixteen in the kitchens of prominent European hotels where she acquired the culinary skills and techniques that propelled her across the Atlantic and then on to become the first women inducted into the exclusive Escoffier Culinary Society. Long before Kitchen Confidential, Rachel Ray, and the Food Network, You may not recall her name, but you won’t forget this dining experience!
Come and take this culinary trip through Austria and enjoy a four course food and wine pairing for six, prepared in your home. Each course stems from a different region and includes a verbal history of the food and wine you will experience.
