44 Southwest (also known as 44 SW and Forty-Four Southwest) is the oldest family-owned restaurant in Hells Kitchen (Midtown West), located just one block west of the New York's famous Theater District and just walking minutes to over 60 Broadway and Off-Broadway venues, including Lincoln Center, New York City Center (for the Performing Arts), Carnegie Hall, Jacob Javits Convention Center, Times Square / 42nd Street and even Central Park.
44 Southwest authentic charm comes from its history. Since 1971, Mama Mia (Anna) and her late husband Guido (now "in spirit") are a staple in the neighborhood; greeting customers, exchanging stories, catering to those "in-the-arts" and those enjoying the arts, often long before many artists became famous. It is not uncommon for a dining opera singer to burst out into operatic song to entertain Mama Mia, or a broadway performing artist to recite lines from part of their broadway show, even breaking out into a show tune!
