Description
Custom painting (44"x29") acrylic on wood veneer of John Lennon by Los Angeles urban artist Mark Islas, who is an Uncle of two Farragut students.
About the Artist:
"John Lennon has long stood in artist Mark Islas' mind as a larger-than-life figure, a poet and musician who was unafraid to speak his
mind and make powerful statements that would impact millions around the world.
"LA Lennon" is an image born of artist Islas' love of his home town of Los Angeles and the freedom and creativity of the world shaped
by Lennon: the avant-garde art scene in New York in the late 1970s and early1980s.
Islas' travels to New York and through Europe, tracing the footsteps of his hero, inspired him to reimagine Lennon's iconic face in an urban street art style that has become Islas' signature, a unique style the artist cultivated while growing up as a Latino in Venice Beach, California.
Islas lives with his wife and family in Van Nuys but can’t escape the beach city of his childhood and is often drawn there in his off time. Islas' work can be seen at the Venice Beach Art Crawl and many other art shows around Los Angeles."
