Description
Original oil painting entitled "Fishermen Holiday" by David (Dolphin) Forde. This finely wrought 2006 painting depicting a fisherman off the shore with a colonial flag waving gracefully in the breeze. Featuring fine gradation of color and a soothing ambiance, the 8"x10" painting is oil on canvas, beautifully framed to 13.5"x15.5".
David (Dolphin) Forde is a talented, emerging painter with a strong interest in the sea. Born and raised on the South Shore of Boston, fishing and sailing were mainstays of his youth that heavily influenced his life and his art. David is admittedly influenced by several of the great American luminist painters--notably, Martin Johnson Heade (1819-1904) and John Frederick Kensett (1816-1872).
David uses reflected light against the sea and captures a subtle stillness and mystery in his works that are reminiscent of these masters. As a former competitive sailor, David understands the relationship between sea and boat. The viewer immediately senses that he is an experienced sailor. Somehow, he combines sailing know-how with knowledge of light, sky and sea. The results are his wonderful soft scenes evoking a quiet, timeless feeling of peace and tranquility on the ocean. They are truly magical.
David is mostly self-taught and is constantly studying the works of other maritime artists. He frequently paints leaning over a chair with the canvas flat on the floor. He mostly works with smaller canvas sizes. His works are exhibited and shown within the Seacoast region of NH, Maine and Massachusetts. David (Dolphin) Forde lives and paints in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
