Description
Frank McCulloch, Bosque Water, oil on board, 24x24
This piece was taken from the Llano Estacado which are the plains that run down below Belen and east from there into Texas. You've got those wide wide plains that run right through there. I believe that's where I took this piece from pretty early in the morning.
I'm from New Mexico and raised in New Mexico, mainly Albuquerque but was born in Gallup and a little bit Northern New Mexico. I lived my whole life here and somehow I feel this whole country around here is kind of inside me from the beginning.
Special Instructions
Frank McCulloch's is the granddaddy of Albuquerque artists. His retrospective exhibit in 2008 at the Albuquerque Museum was such a testiment to his vast career and enormous talent. A recipient of the New Mexico Governor's Award in the Arts, University of New Mexico Distinguished Alumnus of the Year, Albuquerque Arts Alliance Bravos Award, and AABA Local Treasure, is just a partial list of his recognition as a painter and an artist here in the land of enchantment. Born in Gallup in 1930, with a BFA from UNM and Masters from NM Highlands and Istituto Allende, Mexico, Frank taught art to many noted Albuquerque artists including Angus Macpherson. His legacy has been covered in Southwest Art Magazine, New Mexico Magazine, Art News, and American Artist to name a few.
