Mask designed by Emmy Star Brown
The 2012-13 Sharpie Artist, Chicago-based Emmy Star Brown is best recognized for her expressive paintings on salvaged glass windows. All of her designs are freehand painted. Her combination of vintage frames with contemporary design make for a unique contrast, creating eco-friendly artwork adaptable to any environment. Her salvaged windows, frames and reused materials are all scraped from local alleys and flea markets. All designs reflect the artist's background in graphic design, as well as her love for type, pattern, movement and modern design.
Over the past three years, Emmy Star Brown has resurrected more than 300 glass windows from the street and alleys of Chicago. Among these treasures, she has also repurposed bundles of wood scraps, shelving and old flooring, bringing a second life to them. Although her designs appear seamless, no stencils or templates are ever used.
