Now in it’s fifth year, camp.groove Rock Day Camp offers a camp experience for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. Each student will play in a band, record a CD, attend live shows, perform, and attend a real rock concert (past concerts include Aerosmith, KISS, Motely Crue). New in 2013, all bands will have an assigned coach for the week who will perform select songs with them at the performance.
Typical daily schedule:
9-10:30am: Songwriting
10:30-12:30: Recording Techniques/Instrument Lab
12:30-1: Lunch
1-3: Band Rehearsal
3-4: Elective
Performances are scheduled each Saturday at 4pm at either the Xibus Performance Hall or a venue TBD.
There is an optional concert (for an additional fee of $30-40). Each week student may elect to attend a live performance by a national touring act. If you wish to attend, please let us know at least 7 days before camp begins so we can make sure we are able to get tickets. Many of these shows sell-out. Concert schedule will be posted as it becomes available.

How do meals work?
Meals* are provided by camp.groove for an additional fee of $10 per meal. Students signing up for more than 1 week of camp are eligible for free lunch. We order meals from local restaurants including Atwoods Tavern, Quiznos, and Cinderella’s.
Who comes to camp.groove?
Vocalists and instrumentalists under 18. Groups are divided according to playing level, and no auditions are required (auditions are required in the advanced camp) so players of all backgrounds can come to camp to learn from a superior cast of performers and instructors.
About School of Groove:
Our instructors have worked alongside John Mayer, Paul Simon, Herbie Hancock, Gloria Estefan, and even Bill Cosby. Participate in rehearsals, coachings, workshops, and jam sessions with some of the top professionals in the business.
School of Groove is a contemporary music school.
That’s quite the mouthful, so what does it mean?
- We want you to have FUN! Whether you are 13 or 30, you probably didn’t pick up an instrument to be miserable, you picked it to have fun. We realize some students want to be serious and pursue music as a career, but others want it as a hobby.
- You have options here. We’re not a classical conservatory, and we’re not rock school. We offer something that you won’t find elsewhere, and that’s a choice. You can study hip hop here, you can study jazz. You can learn Beethoven, and you can learn Zeppelin.
- You’re going to perform here. We’re not going to stick you in a stuffy recital hall, by yourself, in front of an audience of parents only, we’re going to put you in a professional club, with an audience of music lovers. People are actually going to scream…not just clap politely
Student Showcase
This is it. The big Kahuna! This is also where we start bragging, and tell you that we do this better than any other school out there. What school is going to feature you at the best clubs in Boston – School of Groove! What school is going to feature you at the biggest music festivals in New England – School of Groove. What school employs people that have actually directed professionally run stage productions – School of Groove.
It’s not usually something that schools talk about a lot, so we’re going to take advantage of that. SCHOOL OF GROOVE PUTS ON THE BEST STUDENT PERFORMANCES…PERIOD. If you don’t think so, then show us somewhere else the does…
