Description

Winning bidder will receive one week of Dexter Hockey Campgood for any camp week during the 2013 summer season (weeks of June 18  - August 6), with the option of extending another week at full price. Bus service from area towns is included!


In a delightful country setting on the campus of Dexter and Southfield Schools, minutes from downtown Boston, the Camps are centrally located on the Brookline-Boston line, a short distance from Routes 1 and 9, directly across from Larz Anderson Park.


Dexter Hockey Camp:


Boys
For summer 2013, there are four two-week sessions:
• Session 1: Boys - June 17 - June 28 
• Session 2: Coed - July 1 - July 12*
• Session 3: Coed - July 15 - July 26
• Session 4: Boys - July 29 - August 9

Girls
For summer 2013, there are two two-week
sessions:
• Session 2: Coed - July 1 - July 12*
• Session 3: Coed - July 15 - July 26


The day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. 
* No camp on Thursday, July 4.

Philosophy

The Hockey Camp, for boys and
girls ages 7-14
, provides outstanding hockey instruction and a well-rounded full-day program of sports activities. The values of sportsmanship and fair play are emphasized.

Camper Groupings
Campers are divided into groups according to age, size, and ability, enabling coaches to support and
challenge every participant appropriately. Each team is assigned two coaches and a counselor.

Dynamics of Skating
• Campers learn the physics and mechanics of skating
• Campers learn to use all four skate edges in
order to concentrate energy and power into every movement
• Skating drills are designed to teach all the skills required to become a complete hockey player

• Exercises are adjusted to meet the skill level of each camper

Games
• Stop-action with coaches on the ice and bench
provides immediate feedback
• Skaters are asked to play every position
• Each player focuses on achieving personal goals, thereby helping the team
• Sportsmanship and respect for teammates, opponents, coaches, and referees is emphasized during the game and throughout the day
• In both games and practices, individual instruction is an integral part of the program


Off-Ice Instruction
• Rules, tactics, skills, sport psychology and nutrition are reviewed by the head coach
• Instruction on conditioning, injury prevention and care is also given
• Topics are adjusted to meet the maturity level of each group

Special Activities
• Recreational swimming in the pool is supervised by certified lifeguards

• Each day, campers may participate in other sports such as touch football, soccer, basketball, street hockey, and baseball
• Olympics contest includes track and field events, a distance run, on-ice obstacle courses, an endurance
skate, and swimming races
• There is a special pizza day every Thursday

• There is a cookout and awards ceremony on the final day

Hockey
Camp Staff

Our lead staff are coaches and teachers from Dexter and Southfield Schools.

Other staff is composed of college, high school, and
amateur coaches who are experienced with and dedicated to making youngsters better citizens as well as better hockey players.

Hockey Camps
Director:  Mr. Brian McColgan, St. Lawrence University B.S.; Dexter faculty for
14 years; Assistant Coach of Dexter Varsity Hockey; St. Lawrence Univ. First
Team All American; played professionally in Europe from 1988-1999.

 All winning bidders will be charged a transaction fee of 5%, not to exceed $20 per item, to cover a portion of the auction transaction fees. We thank you for helping with this and supporting the school.
