The KSA Tradition

Founded in Monticello, New York in 1968 by Milton Kutsher and legendary college basketball coach Clair Bee, Kutsher's Sports Academy was the first camp to offer an entirely elective sports program.  The camp became coed in 1973 and offered instruction in all sports to campers ages 7-17.  KSA was known as the hotbed of basketball in summertime, as the NBA benefit Maurice Stokes Game was held on its campus throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's.   Annual visitors and clinicians at KSA included the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Walt Frazier, Julius Erving and Pete Maravich.  In fact, the first meeting between NBA legends Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul Jabbar (then Lew Alcindor) took place at the Maurice Stokes Game at Kutsher's.

In 2004 longtime Directors Marc & Caroline White, employed with the camp since 1980 and 1984 respectively, took over ownership of the camp.  They leased the property from the Kutsher family for a number of years, then in 2008 moved the camp to its present site on Lake Buel in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusets.  Today the camp is as popular as ever, and in 2010 a brand new 20,000 sf field house was erected which is named "Legends Hall" and pays tribute to the history of Kutsher's Sports Academy.

Facilities:

In the spring of 2008 Kutsher's Sports Academy moved to its new site on the shores of beautiful Lake Buel in the heart of the Berkshire Mountains. Our gorgeous property features a 240 acre lake, a 15,000 square foot main lodge, 20,000 square foot field house, new bunks and brand new courts and fields. Located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, the NEW KSA continues its proud tradition with a state of the art facility in one of the premier locations in the country.

About Kutsher's Sports Academy:

Founded in 1968, KSA offers children of ages 7-17 the opportunity to play, learn and improve in the sports they love, while enjoying the best summer of their life in a fun, caring traditional camp environment. Our programs are directed by professional, college and high school coaches, many of whom have been with us for more than 20 years.

Campers receive professional instruction in activities of their own choosing, with session options from one week to nine weeks.  This flexible blend of learning and fun has always been the foundation of our program.

Program & Activities

Conceived and developed by Milton and Joseph Kutsher and legendary basketball coach Clair F. Bee in 1968, the Sports Academy offers a unique program in athletics. Boys and girls design their own individual camp program, with assistance and guidance from our coaching and counseling staff, according to their needs and desires. A camper may concentrate on improving in their favorite sport or activity, and may also satisfy a curiosity about an activity he or she has never tried before. All of our programs are set up with various levels of ability in mind, and campers are grouped in each activity according to ability. This allows campers to try new activities without feeling overwhelmed, and also enables those at a higher level to obtain the type of instruction needed to advance in their sport. There are also "play periods" offered in each sport, for those who wish to experience a sport on a recreational level and want less instruction.

The KSA program covers practically every individual and team activity on the high school and college sports scene.

All of our programs are coed, and all of our activities are popular with both male and female campers. All campers also participate in intramural league play in the sport of their choice. Age, degree of ability and experience determine the level of league competition for all campers. KSA is also very active in intercamp sports competition with local camps in a variety of sports.

In addition to our typical camp program there are a lot of fun and exciting events that the campers may take part in throughout the summer.  These include out of camp trips, special visitors and so much more.
