About Running Brook Day Camp:

All campers participate in a diverse daily schedule of activities designed and facilitated to improve skills, encourage cooperation and increase self-confidence. Each activity is run by an experienced, adult specialist and is structured with the specific developmental abilities of each group in mind. When camper groups are at a scheduled activity, our camper-to-counselor ratio is no greater than 5:1.

We currently offer Bus Transportation to the following towns: Arlington, Lexington, Winchester, Watertown, Belmont, Cambridge and Somerville. The specific bus stops for each town are listed on the website, followed by answers to some frequently asked questions about our bus procedures. Please contact the camp office if you have any additional questions.

Activities include:

  • Red Cross swim instruction & free swim each day

  • Arts & Crafts

  • Music

  • Sports

  • Creative Movement

  • Drama

  • Self-defense

  • Cooperative Games

  • High Ropes

  • Yoga

  • Woodshop

  • Science

  • Lego room

Each day at camp starts with an all-camp morning assembly where we review announcements, upcoming events and highlight special camper talents and achievements.  This is an important tradition that helps reinforce our camp as a community and allows us to start our day together in a fun, positive way.  Each camper group then goes on to their first scheduled activity of the day.  Groups will combine for swim periods, lunch, electives (older groups), as well as for our special events and performers .  All groups are scheduled for each of the activities listed above, with High Ropes and Woodshop being the only exceptions.  We reconvene as an entire camp for the end of the day dismissal.

Weekly Themes

Throughout the summer, we celebrate various weekly themes as a camp to give campers and staff additional opportunities to share more of themselves with our community, to learn more about our world together, to have different camp activities link together and to have some great, silly fun in the process. Each week will have its own dress-up day(s) to add to the fun. Past themes and dress-up days have included:

The seasons

Crazy hair day

The continents

Pajama day

“My favorite…”

Super-hero day

Stars & Stripes

Animal Day

Wacky Week

Backwards
Day

On occasion we also have special performers join us at camp for an afternoon show.

New for 2013 at Running Brook!

We had a wonderful summer 2012, and were especially excited to welcome so many new campers and families to our community.  There are a number of exciting new developments at camp that we are eager to share with you:

We are excited to announce that the construction of our new, heated, twin pool complex is well underway.  This vastly larger and improved facility will greatly enhance our swim programming for many summers to come.

We are also excited to be adding a four-week visual Arts camp called SummerArts to our array of summer programs.  Please click the link to the right for more details.

We are once again offering our Preschool Camp Program for campers ages 3.5 through entering Kindergarten, as well as a 9th week of camp, from August 19-23, for both Running Brook Day Camp and Aspen Adventures.
