The foam beam is attached by velcro and when removed allows the mat to roll up for storage. The foam beam measures 4 1/4 inches on the top and 7 inches on the bottom. Made with 1 3/8 inch high density crosslinked polyethelene foam, the beam will support up to 200 pounds before compressing.The foam in the mat is the same as in the beam, which is also the same foam used by gymnastics schools and the Olympic floor exercise routines.
