Description

A wonderful collectible for the stamp collector or supporter of The Seeing Eye, this item is a framed First Day Cover of the 1979 "Seeing For Me" stamp.

The stamp is affixed to an envelope with a montage of guide dog training and use, and is marked "Official Postmasters of America Commemorative Issue." The envelope is stamped "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" and cancelled June 15, 1979, in Morristown, N.J. The envelope has a typewritten address.

The images in the montage show German shepherds and Labrador retrievers being trained to guide and guiding various people. The stamp itself shows a German shepherd, in harness, guiding a person; you can only see the person's leg as he strides alongside the shepherd, and some of his left hand holding the harness.

Mounted below the envelope in the frame is a label explaining the history of The Seeing Eye.
