Description

Minnesota artist Jane Johnson was inspired by Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. Marius holds Eponine as she lay dying in the rain, and she sings, "a little fall of rain can hardly hurt me now." The rain is washing away the past, washing away the pain, making the flowers grow... and Eponine is at rest. Sad, yet so beautiful.

Les Miserables was first published in 1862, and 'Sleeping Flowers' is reminiscent of the Impressionists of the late 1800's, perhaps most similar to Claude Monet's 'Water Lilies'.
