Description
Enjoy 1 month of Keiki Hula lessons (for children ages 5-9) at the Hula School of Santa Cruz with hula instructor Leolani Lowry.
The Hula School of Santa Cruz (HSSC) invites you to discover the expressive dance form of the Hawaiian Islands offering classes in traditional and contemporary styles of hula. Founded in 1998 by Leolani Lowry, a native of Hilo, Hawai'i, HSSC is open to students of all ages. In addition to hula classes, we also promote Hawaiian culture through community education, performances and workshops throughout the greater Santa Cruz area.
The Hula School of Santa Cruz official halau name, given by Grammy award-winning slack key guitarist George Kahumoku, JR. is Ka Lei Wehi O Ka Mailelauloa, which honors Leolani's former teacher and the big-leaf maile, a symbol of her upbringing on the island of Hawai'i. Ka Lei Wehi O Ka Mailelauloa is proud to be in the hula lineage of Aunty Ma’iki Aiu Lake.
Whether you are new to hula or would like to start dancing again, you will find becoming a part of our hula family to be enjoyable and rewarding. We welcome you to join us in sharing the hula with others who have Hawai'i in their hearts.
