Description
Root Farm works on bringing children and nature closer together through organic farming with greater compassion and responsibility towards animals, the earth, and each other. Root offers children the opportunity to learn all aspects of organic farming — our main focus is on living sustainably while caring for farm animals in a humane and compassionate way. We work with goats, horses, chickens and bees. Discovering their jobs on the farm and how we can be better caretakers to these peaceful creatures.
Summer is a great time of year on the farm! The apples are ripening, the goats are providing us with milk, and the bees are busy making honey for the fall harvest. Children will enjoy a week (or more) experiencing the Root Summer Camp program! We will spend time working with goats, chickens, horses and more... plus special guests, nature hikes and crafts. We will build with hay bales and make a cob/mud creation! Cultivating a bee friendly garden, climbing trees, and milking goats are just a few more of the fun things children participate in during camp.
At Root we keep our classes and camps pint-sized. A maximum of six to eight children per session enables our teachers and guides to focus on the needs of the children and the animals. While creating a warm and friendly environment for the children to explore and learn in nature.
Root Care Farm is located on an 8 acre organic apple orchard in south Sebastopol. Root was created by Joy Hamel with the generous support of Ali Pearson and Bill Stockton.
