Fund-A-Need for Grant-A-Wish - Dining Etiquette Program.


This grant is requested to help support a portion of Career Week the week of April 8th, 2013, for students which will include: Dining Etiquette Speaker, Career Fair, and a Dress for Success Speaker.


Specifically the money is requested for:


The interview Meal:  Don’t Burn Your Prospects!  This workshop enables students to round out their academic achievements and experience with skills that show they understand professional conduct.  As a result of the workshop a student



  • Becomes armed with skills that help her stand out from the competition

  • Can focus on the conversation at hand at a business (or social) meal, because he isn’t fumbling with his fork and knife or worrying what to do with the bone he’s about to swallow

  • Is able to dine in a professional or social setting in a way that shows maturity and a respect for the comfort of others

  • Reflects the standards of Minuteman High school and the Guidance Department


Some of the workshop topics will include:



  • Preparing at home – details re: hygiene, attire

  • Why not to come hungry

  • Why to arrive early

  • Responsibilities as a guest

  • What to do if a toast is offered

  • The place setting – the different utensils and the way they are arranged

  • Smart meal selections – foods to avoid

  • Silverware and napkin handling; how to hold cut meat; silverware positions

  • How to pass food

  • How to eat soup (to keep the dribbles in the soup cup and off your shirt!)

  • How to eat common foods such as baked potato and roll without a fuss

  • Common pitfalls and dilemmas such as removing a bone/pit from your mouth

  • Smart follow-up


$660 requested for this grant.  You may donate in increments of $10.  Example:  to donate $50, purchase 5 of this item.

“Bidding” on a Fund-A-Need item is considered a donation directly to benefit a certain program, activity, grant or class. Purchasing this item partially funds a request the MPA received from faculty, staff or a student club. All amounts for “Fund-A-Need” purchases are tax deductible donations to the Minuteman Parent Association, 501(c)3 organization and my be eligible for a company matching contribution.
