Fund-A-Need for Grant-A-Wish - Author visit.
This grant will fund a visit by Leslie Newman, author of October Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard in the fall of 2013. Ms Newman is a poetry fellow from the National Endowment for the Arts and the MA Artists Fellowship Foundation. In her presentation she uses primary sources such as poetry and photographs to encourage everyone to live a more accepting existence.
The author will provide a large group discussion and presentation dealing with LGBT issues, anti-bullying themes, and writing a work of nonfiction. The author visit will fit with themes studied at Minuteman, including summer reading titles such as Buddha Boy, as well as the work of student organizations such as the Gay Straight Alliance.
Potential audience to include the Gay Straight Alliance club, grade 9 ELA class, and possibly seniors.
$1300 requested for this grant. You may donate in increments of $10. Example: to donate $50, purchase 5 of this item.
