Besides having been exposed to the ancient beliefs and superstitions of the old-world Chinese, she can personally recall inexplicable occurrences in the neighborhood from her own childhood. Other members of her immediate family have had such experiences, some of which are shared. These deep-rooted cultural and environmental influences have galvanized Cynthia's curiosity and passion for things unseen but perhaps not unfelt, and have led her to delve into the history of Chinatown and its extrasensory past.
