Description
Wayang is a generic term denoting traditional theatre in Indonesia. Wayang was probably brought to Indonesia from India or China around the first century CE, with the first record of a wayang performance dated 930 CE. Indigenous storytelling traditions may have had a profound impact on the development of the traditional puppet theatre, certain features of which remain to this day.
