A friend, who is a pianist, commissioned me to do a painting. Her only requirements were bright colors and related to music. After interviewing her, she told me her favorite artist is Franz Liszt and one of her favorite pieces is the Hungarian Rhapsody. I did research on the style of pianos dated around the mid1800s and incorporated this detail into the scroll work at the top of the painting. I listened to the Hungarian Rhapsody. Liszt’s piece had much movement and emotion in it so my intent was to transfer this to the canvas.
