David Tewksbury is a locally-grown singer/songwriter. A life-long lover of music of all kinds, from chant to jazz and blues, from trip-hop to opera, from R &B to funk to indie pop.
With a passionate love for music that--according to his mother--began in the womb, David is a singer and songwriter who’s been performing his original songs since 1996. He fronted the four-piece jazz-pop band Image, an electro-acoustic duo called Zofia Drone, and mostly has played solo since 2002. He has he has led music for three area houses of worship, spanning music styles from acapella hymns to urban gospel. David has performed at Fridays After 5, First Night Virginia, Crozet Music Festival and the Glass House Winery in Free Union . He has shared the stage with wide-ranging artists, from Grammy Award winner and Nashville-based songwriter Kate Campbell to local duo The Honey Dew Drops-- Prairie Home Companion’s “Best Talent in their 20’s” winners. From Brad Corrigan of college-band phenom Dispatch, to Charlottesville’s own The Hill & Wood.
His latest recording, the EP “Five Months from October” was one of the top-selling records at the fourth annual Crozet Music Festival. David’s song “Mystery” was selected as a finalist in the 2010 Thomas Jefferson Center for Free Expression’s “First Amendment Writes” Songwriting and Poetry Contest, and was filmed in performance at the Jefferson Theater in downtown Charlottesville. A recent highlight was an all-ages capacity crowd in his debut gig at C’ville Coffee in January.
