About the Artist

Celebrated wildlife artist Jan Martin McGuire was born in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies and, surrounded by all of the natural beauty, developed an early love for the outdoors. After moving to Oklahoma with her family, McGuire began to take art classes at the local art museum and went on to the University of Tulsa to study fine art. Feeling stifled by the focus on modern and contemporary art, she left to follow her own path and turned professional in 1983, painting nature and wildlife.

McGuire has traveled widely in her quest to experience the nature that she depicts in her artwork, which has been shown in such prestigious venues as the Smithsonian Museum, London's Natural History Museum, the National Geographic Society, and the Gilcrease Art Museum. Her work has also appeared in many books and magazines, including U.S. Art Magazine, Wildlife Art Magazine, and American Artist, and she has written two children's books.
