About the Artist


Born in 1953 and raised in Connecticut, Susan Terpning has become a quintessential painter of the American West.


Terpning studied anthropology in college but soon after turned to painting, following in the footsteps of her father, famous painter Howard Terpning. She's spent the last 30 years living in the Southwest, studying at the Taos Art School in New Mexico, working at her studio in Santa Fe, and capturing the brilliant light and wide open expanses that are in high supply in the American Southwest.
