Description
This is a 4 inch high brass statue of Divine Mother as Kali purchased during the recent pilgrimage to India at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple where Yogananda had Divine Mother appear to him in the form of Kali as described in Autobiography of a Yogi.
Kali was Paramhansa Yogananda's favorite form of God. When She appeared to him in vision, he said "Mother, how beautiful you are!"
Here is Swami Kriyananda's explanation of Divine Mother as Kali: Her upheld sword cuts through delusion, the necklace of skulls implies that she dwells in every being. When she steps on the chest of Shiva, she goes beyond creation. She sticks out her tongue because in going beyond creation she has gone too far: into formlessness.
Indians love Kali because she is the fierce aspect of the Mother, she protects her devotees from harm and delusion.
