John's source for artistic inspiration is Maine's coastal landscape. He wanders and sketches looking to surprise himself with interesting compositions, especially where the water, land and sky meet. "The quality of light in Maine is really wonderful, how it can bring emotional intensity to the subject, lighting up pilings of an old wharf in the afternoon sun or illuminating the curves of a well used fishing boat.
