Description

This is a one of a kind experience – participation in an underwater robotic mission with students and faculty of the Santa Clara University Robotic Systems Lab (RSL).   Santa Clara students build and operate underwater robots (and a variety of other land/sea/air/space robots) as part of the RSL education and research program.  Students routinely operate these robots in California lakes, estuaries and coastal waters, often working with scientists in order to study underwater life, geology, or artifacts.  This is your chance to participate in an upcoming underwater robotic mission!

Good for an SI student and a parent or guardian.  RSL routinely conducts a mission in Lake Tahoe in late May 2013, working with world class geologists and marine scientists to study the evolution and health of the Lake, with a planned emphasis on Emerald Bay.  An alternate opportunity is an October 2013 training mission in Monterey Bay during which the RSL team typically tests new engineering equipment.  The student/parent will join the RSL student/faculty team on one of these trips, will undergo a safety orientation, will receive a short tutorial on the robot and mission, will interact with the RSL team in sailing to the dive area(s), and will have a chance to pilot the underwater robot.  Time on the boat for these missions is typically on the order of a few hours.
