The Club’s Skating Academy operates learn to skate classes in 5 locations, and its annual carnival Ice Chips is the longest running ice show in America. Club skaters regularly top the podium at local and national competitions, including current United States Bronze Medalist, Ross Miner.
The Skating Club of Boston is also active outside of its Brighton facility, with satellite programs in Marlborough, Foxboro and Newton. The Club also now manages the Boston Common Frog Pond in a year-round public/private partnership with the Boston Parks Department.
Perhaps most significant, the Club is actively pursuing plans to build a new state-of-the-art, three-rink facility a short distance from its current home on Soldiers Field Road.
Throughout the year, The Skating Club of Boston offers opportunities for members to prepare for competition, celebrate holidays, organize benefit events, and share our love of skating. Beginning in September, we enjoy regular Friday night dinners, skating exhibitions, and start a season of sendoffs to regional, national, and international competitions.
Our Junior Activities Committee orchestrates annual Halloween and Winter Holiday shows and initiated an annual exhibition to honor the legacy of our own champion skater and long-time World judge, Mary Louise Wright. This exhibition benefits future generations of skaters by funding the MLW Memorial Exhibition Award and by donating to the U.S. Figure Skating Memorial Fund.
In the spring, the annual Club Competition features freestyle, interpretive, and the ever-popular similar pairs event. The longest continuously-running ice carnival in the world, Ice Chips, highlights over 200 club members as well as international champions. Our year concludes with the Awards Banquet in June where we celebrate the year in skating and recognize our skaters’ accomplishments.
