About The Street:

The Street Redevelopment

New Face. New Place. New Pulse.

WS Development is bringing a new generation of great retailers, first-class architecture and site design to transform the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center, the region’s oldest suburban shopping center in one of its best locations, to The Street, a retail destination fitting for the 21st century. Opened in 1949, the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center was by some accounts Massachusetts’ first modern suburban shopping center. It was originally anchored by R.H. Stearns, S.S. Pierce, and Star Market.

Redevelopment Brings Exciting New Retailers

The current redevelopment of The Street will expand the center to 406,000-square-feet. The redevelopment began in March 2012 with the demolition of the former Macy’s building. A familiar icon to Route 9 drivers, the Macy’s building had been home to Bloomingdale’s and R.H. Stearns. In its place stands a new 115,000-square-foot building that includes Showcase Super Lux and The Sports Club/LA.

National Amusements will open the six-screen, Showcase Super Lux in Q2 2013. The new cinema will offer a luxurious experience including, a full-service restaurant featuring Davio’s Cucina, premium reserved seating and upscale, in-theatre, at-your-seat dining throughout the entire complex. The lobby will also include a full bar and lounge featuring a menu of specialty foods and innovative signature cocktails.

The Sports Club/LA at The Street is the Company’s first Jewel Box club. The Jewel Box concept artfully blends cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art architecture to create an unrivaled fitness experience. The new design ensures that the essence and amenities of its larger clubs are creatively integrated into the new eco-friendly, technologically advanced club.

The ground level below the cinema and health club features several exciting retailers including Pottery Barn, lululemon athletica, Polarn O. Pyret, Bernard’s, and City Sports, which moved from its prior location adjacent to Legal Sea Foods.
