1992 Chateau Montelena Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:

The 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is slightly richer than the 1993. There is an extra line on its label honoring Chateau Montelena's 20th Cabernet Sauvignon vintage (1972-1992). The wine's opaque ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet, jammy nose of black fruit and minerals, huge body, a sweet inner-core of ripe fruit, and a long, low acid, opulent finish. Rich and full, this Cabernet is destined for 20+ years of gorgeous drinking. (12/ 1995)

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Saturated deep ruby-red. Redcurrant, tobacco, smoke and loam on the nose, plus a slight sweaty quality; showing the beginning of secondary aromas. Sweet, lush and spicy in the mouth, with lovely red berry fruit. Not especially complex but seamless and satisfying. Finishes quite long, with red fruit flavors and ripe tannins. I'd drink this over the next five years.  (5/ 2003)

90 points Wine Spectator

Firmly tannic, dark in color, with lively, chewy tannins wrapped around a solid core of earthy currant, anise, mineral and sage flavors. Classic Montelena in its structure and austerity, though not as complex as the best from this Napa estate. (8/ 1998)

1991 Joseph Phelp's Insignia Red Bordeaux

The 1991 Insignia is a powerful, backward, full-bodied wine with considerable aging potential. A saturated black/purple color suggests high extraction of flavor as well as youthfulness. The restrained, spicy, herb, cassis, and vanilla-scented nose is ... 1995 Beringer Howell Mountain Merlot

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Good deep ruby-red. Cassis, dark berries and dark chocolate on the nose, plus hints of coffee and cinnamon. Smooth, supple and intensely flavored; suave and sweet. Finishes with tongue-coating but rather soft tannins and palate-staining, expanding fruit flavor.  (6/ 1999)

92 points Wine Spectator

Aromas of earth, clay and currant turn rich and loamy on the palate. This is a dense, concentrated young wine that either needs decanting or a little more cellar time. On the finish it reveals a rich core of cherry and currant, finishing with muscular tannins.--1995 California Cabernet retrospective. (6/ 2005)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 1995 Merlot Bancroft Ranch exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color, followed by a stunning nose of chocolate, minerals, black cherries, and toast. A serious, mountain-styled Merlot, it displays full body, outstanding concentration and purity, and moderate tannin. It needs to be cellared for another 2-3 years, but will last 15 years. Beringer does a superb job with its production from the Bancroft Ranch on Howell Mountain. About 8,000 cases of their single vineyard Merlot are produced. The wine spends 20 months in French oak coopered by the well-known house of Seguin-Moreau. (12/ 1998)
