Description

"As a one person operation, I sometimes wish I had more arms to get all the work done — like say eight of them. I invite you to try a glass of Eight Arms wine. However, watch out. An octopus may reach out from the murky depths, grab hold of you, and drag you back for more!"

-Iain Boltin, Owner/Winemaker

2011 The Argonaut North Coast, California

Varietal: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Cases Produced: 223

Vineyard: The grapes for The Argonaut, are sourced from Ledgewood Creek Vineyard in Suisun Valley. The vineyard is sustainably farmed and has a Fish Friendly Farming certification. The grapes were destemmed and crushed to broken berries and then pressed into a stainless steel tank where it underwent a slow, cool fermentation.

Tasting Notes: The Argonaut has wonderful aromatics with hints of lemon and gooseberry. The crisp clean taste with a note of minerality on the finish leads to a perfectly balanced, refreshing white wine. The wine pairs well with seafood (dare we say Octopus!), cheese and a variety of lighter style dishes.

Enjoy now and over the next year.

2009 The Tentacle North Coast, California

Varietal: 91% Syrah, 9% Grenache

Cases Produced: 978

Vineyard: The grape bunches were hand-sorted and destemmed into either half-ton macro bins or stainless-steel tanks where they were left to cold soak for a short period of time. The must was inoculated with yeast and pumped over or punched down as needed throughout fermentation. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was pressed off its skins  and underwent a secondary malolactic fermentation.

Tasting Notes: Aged for 17 months, this one really wraps it’s arms around you! It’s big and juicy with bright fruit flavors, a spicy palate with a long dark chocolate finish. This Syrah is best enjoyed with a hearty meal. Beware! Once you are caught in the tentacles of this wonderfully delicious Syrah, you may have trouble pulling yourself away.

Enjoy now and over the next 3–5 years.

2009 The Octopod Furlong Estate Vineyard, Alexander Valley

Varietal: 100% Syrah

Cases Produced: 341

Vineyard: The grapes were harvested early in the morning on September 25th. The grape bunches were hand-sorted and destemmed into half-ton macro bins which had a layer of whole bunches spread on the bottom of the bin. The bins were then left to cold soak for a period of five days. Fermentation took place in half-ton lots with a variety of yeast being used. The must was punched down by hand 3-5 times a day during fermentation. The wine was pressed into oak barrels where it underwent its secondary malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked once off its lees at the end of malolactic fermentation.

Tasting Notes: It was then aged for 21 months in a combination of French & American oak barrels (20% new). This well-balanced Syrah is dark and brooding with ripe fruit flavors and a hint of spice. This full-bodied wine finishes with plenty of fruit, balanced acidity and well structured, velvety tannins. A great wine to enjoy with a hearty meal, The Octopod rises from the depths and grabs hold of you, dragging you back for more!

Enjoy now and over the next 5–8 years.
