Description
"The device that changed everything is now changing the classroom."
This quote from Apple is spot-on when it comes to describing the use of iPads in the World Language program(s) at Brookwood. In addition to inspiring creativity and hands-on learning, students are able to more fully experience another culture through a wide array of appropriate learning-based apps. The iPad's engaging layouts and interactive images help bolster teachers' efforts to build strong vocabulary and communication skills across all three (French, Spanish and Mandarin) world languages.
"When students begin to learn characters, they also learn a whole new writing system. The most challenging part of this is conquering the writing methodology. Practicing Mandarin characters on the iPad is a really intuitive way to learn. Students use their fingers to draw the characters and have immediate visual feedback to help them correct their handwriting. Plus, the kids love using technology, and the iPads turn repetitive character practice into a super fun game!"
Elizabeth Hammett, Mandarin Teacher (Grades 5-8)
