Description

A one-week stay at our three-bedroom, two-bath fully renovated house with a deck facing the river that is plenty big for dinner and drying your waders too.  Next door is the renovated 1800s Gary Cooper homestead with another bedroom (twin bunks) and living room (good for a guide if you bring your own).

We have a queen bed in the downstairs bedroom, a double and twin upstairs left, a twin over a double bunk upstairs right with a futon.  The dining room bay window has perfect light for fly tying and there are no neighbors across the river. Enjoy the pool table, games, and satellite television only four hours from Yellowstone and less than an hour from the Great Falls or Helena airports.

The short walk to the river is flat and an easy takeout.  Eleven miles up the road there is a neighborhood-only takeout – the public can only float in certain months on the full-day float. Feel free to float down to the Missouri where there are plenty of fishing options.

The “fully Montana” road, as the locals say, is gravel and dirt for about 1.6 miles, so take it slow, so you won’t see but a few of the 40+ houses nestled in the hills.  We recommend 4-wheel drive, but on our ten acres parking is not an issue.

With a hard rain you may see the rare waterfall … in the early morning or evening the deer will practically join you on the deck, and bear tracks are obvious as they walk across the river from the huge ranch across the river. There is a large swimmable pool just in front of the large rocks or feel free to walk upstream for miles.

Special Instructions

Food is not provided but we can recommend a caterer, someone for daily cleaning, or other amenities.  The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils, dishes and some spices. Linens and towels are provided, and there is a third vanity for the extra moisturizing time (but hopefully not full makeup!) you will want to add to your face and exposed parts. Do drink plenty of water in this dry heat – and don’t be concerned about the temperature, in no humidity it is quite comfortable.  Locals open the windows in the cool summer nights and close them in the heat of the day, Montana air conditioning. We back ours up with a heat pump if you like.

Availability is listed on the website - www.vrbo.com/118896.  According to the donor you are most likely to get your preferred week but just in case choose two weeks should your first choice be taken.
