Mozart's Quintet in E-flat major for Piano and Winds, K. 452 is a unique marvel. “I myself consider it to be the best work I have ever composed,” Mozart told his father after its well-received premiere in 1784. The unusual instrumentation gives the piece a kaleidoscopic, constantly shifting aural surface, as Mozart worked hard to keep the four winds balanced in sound and presence, with the piano as a common background. Also includes String Quartet in B-flat major, K. 458, “The Hunt” and Quartet in B-flat major, K. 589.
