Filomena's in Waterford has a whole new vibe-it's now owned by Michael Buscetto III, the latest in a line of Buscettos to bring good food to the New London area. (Oh, those summer days at Michael's Dairy, with the rented livestock next door, the gorgeous old cars, and the '50s and '60s music, to say nothing of the peach ice cream!)

The three times I've visited Filomena's in the past few months, Mike III has been there, too, busing tables and schmoozing with customers. The wait staff is terrific and the food is the best it's ever been. Twice I've had the Caesar salad with steak. It was the first time I'd had a salad topped with steak that is pretty darn rare, which I like a lot. It's a big salad, too, and takes so long to finish that I don't lust after a friend who is eating the chicken with white wine, one of my favorite dishes.
