Description

Today's small Black Walnut will become tomorrow's large deciduous tree attaining a height of 98–130 ft. This gorgeous prehistoric-looking majestic tree produces a nut with a brownish-green, semi-fleshy husk and a brown, corrugated nut. The whole fruit, including the husk, falls in October; the seed is relatively small and very hard. The hulls may be used medicinally in a tincture as an anti-fungal treatment, and the nuts may be eaten if you don't mind stained fingers! These trees are best planted away from flower beds and vegetable gardens, as roots are toxic to some varieties of plants.
