Description

"Local Haunt" is an original painting by Christopher Morrison-Slave measuring 16" x 16" framed.

About the Artist:

Christopher M. Slave was born on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, living his childhood in the highly artistic town of Ocean Springs. After several abrupt moves throughout the Southeast (from the frigid Alabama Appalachians to the humid Louisiana cypress bayou in one year!), he returned to his native O.S., with a new-found desire to paint. Mesmerized by the masters such as Walter Inglis Anderson, George E. Ohr, and Edvard Munch, he received a fulfilling secondary education in several mediums in art from one amazing Dr. Rhonda Iris Richmond.

Never going on to college, he instead kept painting. And painting. Soon after all the pine trees on the Coast were painted, it was time to move to the only place to live, New Orleans. From the Faubourg Marigny, the Quarter to Lee Circle, Chris has lived in rather peculiar NOLA dwellings. After riding Katrina out and surviving, he decided to pursue the beauty of New Orleans through painting her irreplaceable landscapes and architecture. He draws most of his inspiration from bold color, appreciable music, native folk lore, antique mythology and the "laissez faire" way of local life. Currently living in the Garden District, Chris explores the traditions of Expressionism and Post Impressionism through acrylic and oil pastels as his primary mediums.
