About the Artist: 

Nancy Hirsch Lassen is a native of Baton Rouge, LA and a resident of New Orleans for almost 4 decades. She has owned and operated Interiors & Extras for the past 27 years and has been doing interior design for the past 39 years. 

She graduated from Newcomb College of Tulane University with a degree in fine art, specializing in painting, studying particularly with Pat Trivigno and Hal Carney. Her junior year abroad was spent in Madrid with art history courses in the Prado and taking restoration classes on the side. 

As her only daughter graduated from high school and left for college, Nancy "re-booted" her first love, and college major, painting. She began taking lessons in abstract acrylic painting with Nell Tilton at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. She has recently participated in workshops with Steven Aimone and Robert Burridge.

Color is a passion for Nancy, as is texture, and the beauty and wonder of nature. Her subjects go from totally non-readable abstracts to landscapes, suggestions of landscapes, interiors, water lilies, etc. She finds inspiration everywhere. Color is usually the key... but sometimes it's a train at a crossing or a piece of fabric with awesome colors and texture, or a landscape, sunset, garden... or scum on a pond. 

Nancy has taken the seeds of her formal education and expanded her scope of work with imagination and passion. Her art has become for her a means of expression, communication, and a way of achieving tranquility that she hopes will transcend the medium and be absorbed and appreciated by the viewer. 

Nancy has sold numerous works out of her gallery in Old Metairie and has sold, as well as leased, numerous pieces to the local movie industry. She has exhibited and sold her work through the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art, the Becca Gallery, Le Boulevard, and Taos Blue Taos, N.M. Her work is currently on exhibit at Hirsch-Lassen Gallery in Old Metairie, Tripolo Gallery in Covington, LA, H2O Salon and Spa in Old Metairie, Joey K's in New Orleans, and was recently exhibited in the Bombay Sapphire Show on Julia St.
