Description

The 6th grade students have been very busy building a unique game table. The table was started from a reclaimed black walnut tree. The design of the table has it's emphasis in the natural beauty of this rarely available piece of wood.

The 32" square table top built with very thick solid walnut offers an inlaid stone chess board. It is mounted on a solid block of wood that was once the main trunk of the tree and still gives the same feeling of strength and stability!

The two comfortable stools for the chess players are made from sectional cuts of the walnut tree  and they display further the unique character of the wood.

It has been patiently sanded and sanded and sanded and sanded again....until all the parts are so smooth that you won't want to stop touching it.  Several coats of tung oil and beeswax have been used to protect the wood.

It is a precious piece of art and craftmanship made with dedication and love and lots of enthusiasm by the wonderful sixth grade children.
