Description
Bamana Headdress is made of wood and metal! It is a dance headdress, in the form of an antelope, representing the spirit of Chi wara, who introduced agriculture to the Bamana people. The headdress, attached to a wicker-work cap are worn in pairs by young men of the "flankura" or cooperating group of farmers who at the time of planting and harvest dance in imitation of a leaping antelope; in anticipation of good crop yield.
