Shearwater Pottery Candlesticks

Item Number: 141

Description
These candlesticks are a wonderful example of the pottery found at Shearwater Pottery in Ocean Springs, Mississippi and are a wonderful example of the Anderson brothers' legacy. They are 4 1/2 inches high and are made with a medium-to-light bluish glaze. They are made for small candles about an inch in diameter and have a "drip catcher". All pottery at Shearwater are individually hand made; there are a variety of standard glazes.
These candlesticks were purchased April 2013 at Shearwater Pottery exclusivley for this auction. Shearwater Pottery was established in 1928 by the late Peter Anderson, who was the master potter. In 1930 he was joined by his two brothers, the late Walter Inglis Anderson and the late James McConnell Anderson. Each brother is a famous artist in his own right. Every fall in Ocean Springs there is the widely known Peter Anderson Festival, in honor of Peter Anderson, which is highly sought after by exhibitors during which to display their wares. Also in Ocean Springs is the Walter Anderson Museum....who perhaps is the most well-know of the brothers.
