Description
The Rosati Cabernet Sauvignon wines trace their origins to one of California's most illustrious vineyards, Ridge Vineyards. In 1987, Ridge Vineyard's co-founder, Dave Bennion, took cuttings from the premier vineyard at Jimsomare Ranch to the Rosati Ranch in Southern Mendocino County, planting ten acres of this extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignon stock. Twenty years later legendary winemaker Zelma Long, Rosati's consulting winemaker, has helped turn Rosati into a world class boutique winery, producing 1,000 cases annually of Cabernet described by enthusiasts as "classic California Cabernet at its best, with complex, dark and earthy flavors reminiscent of blackberries, plums, and boysenberries". The 2005 vintage has floral notes that include carnation as well as charred oak and spicy clove notes. This Mendocino Cabernet Sauvignon is a subtle, velvet-gloved wine. The strong but well-knit tannins and intense flavors are reminiscent of the best of Bordeaux and California Cabernets and promise that the wines will age well.
