Tooth whitening, also called bleaching, will give you a brighter, whiter smile. It corrects discoloration caused by aging or injury, and removes staining from coffee, tobacco or other substances. The effects can last for years, but periodic touch-ups may be necessary.

The procedure: Your dentist will take impressions of your teeth and make custom trays for you. At home, you will fill the trays with a gel, and fit them over your teeth. As carbamide peroxide breaks down and oxygen enters the enamel and dentin of your teeth, the discolored areas are bleached. The structure of your teeth is not changed - the color is simply lightened. After continuing the process seven to ten days, your optimum whiteness will most likely be reached.
