Gallery owner Mary Ann Wenniger offers her unique silk and carborundum collagraph prints in a variety of subjects. Co-owner, Mace Wenniger is known for figurative watercolors. About Malcolm Warr
If you look behind a stage set you will see the bare wood frame and bare canvas of the stage flat. If there is to be excitement and magic it will be in front of the set with the lights on and actors present. Unless the artist was hard up and painted on two sides of the canvas you will see the same thing when you turn a painting over; a frame and bare canvas.
The paint on the front has very little value apart from the illusion it creates so a painting is a mind game. It is that game that is valuable, the arrangement of pigments that must somehow be decipherable into, into what? An agreed set or form of shapes, colours and symbols that can be read and which is a diary of the life and times of the artist. If the artist is also a great artist the images will hold part of the life and times of the community. I think that is what we respond to in a painting, a reinforcement of our lives and a remembrance of our lives for as long as we are able to read the image. The painting is a stage flat and we are the actors in front of it.
If you buy one of my paintings you may just inch me up that spectrum at the head of which lies greatness.
