The RISD Museum traces the history of art from antiquity to the present through special exhibitions and a collection of nearly 84,000 works of art in all media including painting, sculpture, decorative arts, costumes and textiles, prints, drawings, photographs, and video, representing cultures around the world.  Highlights include Pendleton House, the first wing of a museum devoted to American decorative arts; a nine-foot Buddha from medieval Japan; an Egyptian coffin and mummy; an arcade of 19th Century galleries including Monet, Manet, Cezanne, and Matisse; and special exhibitions devoted to contemporary art.
