Description

RFK Funeral Train Photograph Not a poster! Printed in-house at Magnum Photos, NY, on Museo Rag Silver paper (100% cotton content, meets Library of Congress archival standards) under the supervision of the photographer. This print - made especially for this auction - is the one of the largest format prints ever offered of this famous photograph, which comes from Fuscos essay RFK Funeral Train. Fusco was a staff photographer for Look Magazine, aboard the train carrying Robert F. Kennedys body from New York City to Washington, DC, from which he photographed the crowds gathered along the tracks to pay their final respects. His pictures from that day first appeared as a photo essay in Look, and were subsequently rediscovered and published as a book in 2000, then re-published in greatly expanded form in 2005. The book inspired the HBO documentary One Thousand Pictures: RFKs Last Journey. Paul Fusco was born in Leominster, Massachusetts, in 1930. After working as a photographer with the United States Army Signal Corps in Korea from 1951-53, Fusco studied photojournalism at Ohio University. He then moved to New York where he became a staff photographer with Look magazine. Fusco became a Magnum associate in 1973 and a full member the following year.
