Description

Rose Lagercrantz is a beloved and prolific Swedish author profiled in Lilith magazine here. Letters Gone Astray is a breathtaking story based on real events in the author's own family,  from Sighet in Romania and how they just managed to survive at the end of World War II.

This edition, interestingly, is a translation from the original Swedish into Yiddish by noted translator Salomon Schulman with his students from the University of Lund. The text appears in two versions, one in the Hebrew alphabet and one transliterated into Latin characters according to YIVO standard. This is a very welcome addition to world literature--in Yiddishland.

Beautifully illustrated by the author's daughter, artist Rebecca Lagercrantz.
