Nancy Whorf was known for her vibrant, expansive Provincetown scenes. She painted the town – the narrow lanes, landmarks, golden sunsets, harbor and boats, snowy walks, and hidden gardens.

Whorf said her work is "thoughtful and sentimental." She was creating a kind of visual memoir. She continued to develop her expressive emotional content and narrative element through strong pictorial language, intense color and masterful gesture. Whorf said, "I want to simplify, to suggest. That's what I like about the palette knife. It's easier to suggest." With that knife stroke, she suggested the whole world of Provincetown.

"Nancy Whorf captures, like no one else,
that wonderful sense that the town takes on
when wrapped in snow."
        –The Advocate

"I take chances with color. I give myself a lot of license. My paintings are certainly not realistic; that's not what I do. I try to get a feeling across through the sense of color. I try and stir an emotion in the viewer; it's not necessarily my emotion, but theirs."
        –Cape Cod Antiques & Arts

"Into the erstwhile becalmed waters of post-impressionist Cape Cod, Nancy Whorf has arrived under full sail as a formidable painter, freshly rigged and gloriously refurbished."
–Art Critic Patrick Clarke-Fussel in Provincetown Arts
